Suspect Arrested in Attempted Burglary Investigation

PressReleaseWhile conducting an investigation into an attempted residential burglary in southwest Ouachita Parish Friday afternoon, OPSO deputies received information identifying a suspect vehicle and two occupants.  Deputies located the vehicle a short time later at a residence on Red Cut Loop Road.  Upon checking the residence, Carlon D. Barefield, age 45 of West Monroe, was arrested.  While arresting this suspect, deputies heard a gunshot in an adjoining room.  Deputies exited the residence with Barefield in custody and secured the scene until it could be safely searched for the second suspect.  Upon searching the residence, the second suspect, Anthony Deal, age 35, was found deceased, apparently the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  An autopsy is pending.  Barefield was booked in OCC on the charges of Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling and Possession of Stolen Things.  Several stolen items were recovered and the investigation is continuing.
