Sheriff Jay Russell Presents Life Saving Award
On July 13, 2017, Sheriff Jay Russell presented the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Life Saving Award to Kristen Sills Anderson. Mrs. Anderson was present on June 26th, 2017 when a major accident involving a train and a truck occurred near Cheniere Baptist Church in West Monroe. The occupants of the truck were injured, one young child critically. Access to the injured by EMS personnel was hampered by the stopped train which was blocking the roadway. Mrs. Anderson ran to the scene and immediately began CPR on a young girl that was unresponsive at the time. She continued CPR and resuscitated the child, providing care until EMS personnel could administer aid and transport the child to the hospital. “Mrs. Anderson’s quick response and medical assistance ultimately aided in the saving of the young girl’s life” said Sheriff Jay Russell. “We are very proud to be able to recognize her for her heroic effort.” The child remains hospitalized due to the severity of her injuries.
