Ouachita Parish Jury Adopts Ordinance Concerning Hunting on Cheniere Lake During Draw-down
ORDINANCE NO. 9121
AN ORDINANCE REGARDING HUNTING ON THE OUACHITA PARISH POLICE JURY PROPERTY IN CHENIERE LAKE; AND, FURTHER PROVIDING WITH RESPECT THERETO
WHEREAS, in conjunction with the need for re-construction of La. Hwy. 3033 and the bridge and spillway over Cheniere Creek, Cheniere Lake has been subjected to an extensive drawdown;
WHEREAS, most areas of Cheniere Lake are bounded by homes, camps and public recreation areas;
WHEREAS, waterfowl hunting has traditionally been allowed on those parts of Cheniere Lake owned by the Ouachita Parish Police Jury;
WHEREAS, other types of hunting on areas of Ouachita Parish Police Jury land in Cheniere Lake exposed by the drawdown could present risks to surrounding properties;
WHEREAS, the Ouachita Parish Police Jury finds that the interests of public safety dictate that hunting on its Cheniere Lake property be limited to waterfowl hunting;
NOW THEREFORE:
BE IT ORDAINED that hunting on the Ouachita Parish Police Jury’s Cheniere Lake property shall be limited to waterfowl hunting conducted in accordance with applicable Federal and State laws and parish ordinances. The hunting of other game animals on the Ouachita Parish Police Jury’s Cheniere Lake property is not allowed. Violation of this Ordinance shall be punishable by a fine of up to $500.00; confinement of up to thirty (30) days in the parish jail, or both.
