OPSO Mourns the Loss of Deputy Joe Barton
Sheriff Jay Russell and Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Deputies are mourning the loss of Deputy Joe Barton.
Deputy Barton passed away Monday morning, March 22, 2021 after a lengthy illness.
Deputy Barton was assigned to the OPSO Men’s Transitional Work Program for several years. Joe was very dedicated to his job and the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office. He enjoyed his work, often counseling with inmates trying to help them improve their lives. Joe was well known throughout our community for his volunteer work by helping with Handicapped and Disabled Hunts, Youth hunts, coaching and umpiring youth baseball, and a member OPHS Chain Gang during football season for 32 years. He was very well respected and will be missed by many. Please keep his family in your prayers during this time.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 25th at Lakeshore Baptist Church in Monroe.
