OPSO DARE Tournament a Huge Success

The OPSO Dare Tournament held Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014 was a huge success.  Despite the weather being cooler than normal, the kids and their families braved the conditions and brought in several nice fish.  Trophies were awarded in each age division and one for overall big fish.  Several nice door prizes were also given away to the participants.

Each year, the tournament participation has increased.  This year was no exception.  Two hundred and thirty children registered for the tournament.  Sheriff Russell organizes the tournament to further familiarize the kids and their families with the OPSO DARE Program and the deputies that are assigned to it.  Another goal of the tournament is to afford the opportunity for families to enjoy a fishing trip with their children and then follow up with family oriented activities during the weigh-in.

Sheriff Russell would like to once again thank the deputies that are assigned to the DARE program, the deputies that volunteered their time to help with the tournament, the sponsors that contributed generously to help cover costs  and especially the parents and kids that participated in the event. Sheriff Russell said he is already looking forward to next year’s tournament.
