Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers
The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office has Resource Officers, commonly referred to as “SRO’s”, assigned to seven Ouachita Parish Schools. Deputies assigned this duty are commissioned, P.O.S.T. certified deputy sheriffs. Deputies that are selected are expected to be a mentor and role model for the students, be able to encourage positive work habits and have high moral standards. Once selected, the deputy will be assigned a school on a full time basis and have numerous responsibilities. The deputy is expected to patrol the campus, including checking classrooms during school hours. The deputy is to participate in crisis response plans and conduct periodic safety assessments of the school he or she is assigned. Each deputy attempts to collect and analyze intelligence related to possible school threats, as well as serving as a liaison with the local youth and juvenile courts. In an emergency, the deputy is responsible for coordinating emergency first responders as well. Responsibilities also include being available and monitoring extra-curricular activities such as ballgames and other school activities after normal hours.
The current Resource Officers are Cpl. Kalinciar Hunter, Dy. Rhonda Hutson, Sgt. Rusty Rowe, Lt. Mickey Hooks, Dy. Constance Collins and S. P. Dy. James Yates.
