West Monroe Homicide Arrest
The victim in the West Monroe homicide has been identified as Steve Brown, 22yo, of 1002 South 7th Street, Monroe.
During the early morning hours of April 18, 2013, the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting complaint at a vacant residence in the 200 block of Central Street in West Monroe. The responding deputies located a decease male victim that had been shot in the head. A subsequent investigation identified the suspect as Cortez Coleman, 20yo, of 21 Honeysuckle Drive, Monroe. With the assistance of the West Monroe Police Department, deputies located Coleman in the 100 block of Vernon Street, West Monroe.
Coleman provided investigators with a statement about the incident on Central Street. He stated that the victim was lured to the location so that his vehicle could be stolen. Coleman stated that the victim was accidentally shot with a handgun.
Coleman has been booked into OCC on an arrest warrant for one count of 2nd Degree Murder. Bond is set at 250,000. The investigation is continuing. The victims identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
