School Resource Officers and Truancy Division
School Resource Officers
The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers are commissioned law enforcement officers that are assigned to all public Ouachita Parish high schools.
These deputies conduct routine patrols of the school’s campus, both inside and out. They participate in designing Crisis Response plans and programs and conduct school safety assessments. They attempt to collect and analyze intelligence related to possible school threats, as well as being a liaison with the local youth and juvenile courts. The deputy is also a mentor, role model, encourages positive work habits, and has high moral standards.
The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office Truancy Division is comprised of three deputies working to ensure all students in Ouachita Parish attend school on a regular basis according to Louisiana Law.
Truancy deputies contact parents and students referred by FINS (Family In Need of Services) and issue verbal warnings and/or truancy summons to adults and/or juveniles for truancy issues. Truancy deputies often are called to counsel with students and parents on the importance of attending school. Truancy deputies also serve juvenile warrants.
